Our country was once again startled a couple of weeks ago with the "gloriagate" issue and there wasn't a clear picture of it since GMA chose to remain silent about this. However, last June 27, 2005, on national television, GMA finally broke her silence and apologize for her "lapse of judgement". Having made her presidential statement, as expected there aroused different reactions (
mostly, violent rxns) from the people & the politicians.
Honestly,as i was watching GMA's speech, i admired her 'guts' ,it's rare to find a pres. apologizing on national television, but on the other side of it, i couldn't see the "sincereness"
(if there's such a word) of her words & it was like she was just reciting a scripted speech (
well as a matter of fact, she was just really reading it, kaso sana inenternalize nya ng mabuti un speech nya...tsk, tsk...). Now, with all that has been said and done, what next? What could we, our country expect in the days to come? An EDSA 3 perhaps?
Last Tues (June 28,2005), we were required to attend a symposium entitiled
"Hello, Garci?...Goodbye Gloria: PEOPLE POWER KA NA BA?" I could really sense and feel the fire igniting in the hearts of the speakers and the members of different movement groups, it's like everyone is shouting "GLORIA, MAG-RESIGN KA NA!!!!". According to Atty. Remios Ruedero, the so-called attorney of the poor people, "...
mahirap idaan sa legal ways!... ndi ko i-aadvice na i-impeach ... i-agitate lng ang isipan ng mamamayan sa mga ganitong isyus..." and you combine it with Dr. Ed Villegas (Chairperson of the Department of Social Science,UPM) speech, I could say that they really are encouraging another people's power for it is the only way to oust GMA from her throne.
Philippines will really expect more rallies, more anger, more discontentment, & more SHAME in the coming days not until those anti-gov't/anti-GMA have attained their goal to oust GMA. However, as former Pres. Cory Aquino stated, "People power for oneself will never succeed." Let's say GMA resigned or was impeached, who will be the next pres.? De Castro? I bet, that would create another issue! GMA's policies are good enough, she just needs to be sincere, since she really needs to gain back people's trust (w/c is quite hard to do!). If GMA was given another chance, I think she would really work hard for the country and her fellowmen for she already learned her lesson and I guess, the same goes to every Filipino, we need to learn & realize the lessons God is teaching us & our country. A lot chaos is really expected but i believe someday it will all be well again. Our country will rise up once again!
